Today in class we continued to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire. So far, we've learned that Jamal has gone through a tough child hood, and the reason why he knows all of the answers is because he had an experience with each question. Here is the homework for the weekend:
India faces some of the worst issues going on in the world today. They are very involved with human trafficking, child exploitation, and forced labor. I'm thankful that no one I know or myself is faced with these issues. At the same time, it is very unfortunate that this happens and I would like to help in some way possible, because these problems are truly awful.
Human trafficking is when men, women, and children are trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation. This is when men, women, and children are forced to work in places such as brick kilns, rice mills, agriculture, and embroidery factories. Women and girls in India are trafficked for things such as commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriage. Children are forced into labor such as factory workers, domestic servants, beggars, and agriculture workers. This issue is very common.
Child exploitation is when children are forced to supply sexual pleasure and to have sex with adults. These children range from ages 5-14. I think that this issue is extremely important. Not only is it sick and traumatizing, but these are poor little innocent kids being raped. It's not right for them to carry that with them for the rest of their life. These children can carry STD'S and they can also receive them.
Forced labor is when people are forced to work with sometimes little salary or no salary. These people work in filthy environments that can cause them to get ill. These people are also not supplied with food, water or shelter through this labor. Indian government needs to focus on these issues a lot more.
